Disability The 2014 Statistics South Africa Report indicates a general prevalence of disability of 7.5% among the South African population. At 8.3%, the female population is significantly more often living with a disability than the male population at 6.5%. The vulnerability and susceptibility of persons with disabilities to HIV infection is well documented. The South African National Strategic Plan on HIV, STIs and TB 2017 – 2022 recognises persons with disabilities as a vulnerable population within the HIV epidemic as they are often highly marginalised and / or stigmatised.
HIGHER HEALTH’s priority will be to assist students with disabilities with easy access to health information and services across all campuses. We also aim to advance initiatives that help to sensitise and educate campus communities about disabilities and to generate knowledge
among the able-bodied students
